Crossings Youth Dance Company

Crossings Youth Dance Company (aka. CYDC) is an outlet for dancers to develop their performance skill and gain artistic experience they cannot get elsewhere. The season kicks off with an August choreographic intensive and continues into the fall with weekly Saturday rehearsals. Dancers get the opportunity to work with local, national, and international choreographers, creating a production to be performed in February. The dancers are mentored in their journey to connect their dancing and faith through devotionals and community building activities.

2020/21 Season in Review . . .

This year has been a journey, that’s for sure! We began the year in May 2020 with Virtual Auditions, hopeful that by fall 2020 we could enter a “usual” season of rehearsals & performances. In August we hosted our “usual” in-person Choreography Intensive. September - October we were able to move ahead with “regular” Saturday rehearsals & choreography. In October we proactively (and thankfully!) filmed our Christmas repertoire in preparation for Advent/Christmas services. Little did we know how important this would become. Then November hit… and on November 13, 2020 we were closed yet again. After a few weeks of Virtual rehearsals, we decided to take a pause for December to reevaluate how to move forward. Come January 2021 we were forced to make a decision… How can CYDC proceed if we can not meet in-person and all hope for a proper indoor performance is gone? Well, sometimes in the midst of despair greatness arises! And CYDC Professional Training Program was formed! We had a quick pivot from a Performance season to a Training season. And it has turned out to be an amazing bless! This program is one we have dreamed of for many years, and it finally came to life!

THANK YOU . . .

To our CYDC families for trusting us in this process.

To our dancers for being patient in the transition and for continue to inspiring us!

To our CYDC team (Miss. Kristen, Laura & Ainsley) for creating such beautiful opportunities for these dancers.

And to all of our guests teachers who shared their passion of dance and ignited hope in our dancers! (Erin, Shelby, Autumn, Johi, Deanna, Kyla, Chantal, Ainsley D, Natalka, Tessa & Elise)

Here is to a memorable 2020/21 CYDC Season and for all exciting things to come in 2021/22!

We hope you will join us for our 2021/22 season!

CYDC pivots . . .

We are excited to share with you our new

After much contemplation and consideration about how to move forward with the remainder of our current 2020/21 Crossings Youth Dance Company season, we are excited to announce our newly created CYDC PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM (CYDC PTP). While we are heart broken that due to the current Covid-19 restrictions we are not able to complete our performance season, we are encouraged by the opportunities that this new program will offer our students.

In these uncertain times, CYDC PTP will provide our dancers with concrete, stable and EXCITING virtual specific training (until we can resume in-studio).  We believe it is important to live out our core values of EXCELLENCE, INTEGRITY & COMMUNITY …. continuing to build our community, foster friendships, offer technical & artistic training and educate our students on the greater dance industry. So we will be using this time to do just this!

This program is something we have wished to offer our students for many years! We are thankful for the opportunity to finally bring this to life! CYDC PTP’s weekly training will include:

  • Company Class (with some awesome guest teachers)
  • Technical & Artistic Development (such as: Conditioning, Stretch, Improvisation, Staging & Choreographic theory, Theatrical Training)
  • Discussion/Theory Sessions (such as: Devotional, Social Media Literacy, Summer Programs/Applications, Education & Career Planning, etc)

Choreography from our current 2020/21 season will be completed with a full stage production in the 2021/22 season.

Get excited, this is going to be an AMAZING show and we can not wait to share it with you!!!

Crossings Youth Dance Company (aka. CYDC) is a Calgary faith-based performance group that provides an outlet for young dancers to develop their artistic skill and gain performance experience. Through mentorship of the whole dancer (body, mind, spirit) CYDC hopes to expand the dancers understanding and integration of faith and art. As well, through ministry opportunities such as performing in churches, schools, senior homes and community events CYDC desires to give back to the community and inspire others.

CYDC is comprised of four divisions and 30 dancers ranging in ages 9 – 19 years old. Throughout the seven-month long season dancers have the opportunity to work with local, national, and international choreographers, creating works, which are performed around Calgary in churches, schools, care facilities and community events. As well, we presented a full-length thematic production every February.

We would be happy to work with you to customize the integration of dance into your service or event.

If you have any questions about CYDC, how to get involved with the company, more about who we are, or how to involve CYDC in your church service or community event, please contact Ainsley Sudds.
