fostering excellence, integrity & community through dance.
For 30 years, Crossings Dance has been committed to nurturing individuals of all ages and levels on their dance journeys, supported by accredited faculty. Crossings Dance has a legacy of technical and artistic training, and as a leader in dance education and the integration of dance science, we develop healthy dancers. Drawing from our Christian roots, Crossings Dance takes a holistic approach; respecting the dignity and uniqueness of each person by creating an environment for personal growth (body, mind and spirit).
Despite these uncertain times, it is with hope & faith that we enter into this 30th year and with humility & awe that we look back on all that our Crossings community has accomplished.

wE HAVE MOVED TO OUR VIRTUAL STUDIO
To our Crossings Community,
In light of the updated Provincial Government and AHS guidelines, Crossings is required to suspend all in-person classes indefinitely. We will continue to provide virtually-amazing-innovative dance training through our virtual platform. We are committed to doing all we can to provide a supportive community for your child where they can continue to benefit from the physical, social, and artistic aspects of on-going dance training.
We realize this is disappointing for all of us, but we want to assure you that we are dedicated to advocating for your child’s freedom to dance in-person, in a Covid-safe environment! We have adapted to the best of our ability to ensure dancing can continue safely by putting approved protocols and procedures in place. Over these next weeks, we will continue to advocate for a safe return to in-studio dance training in January.
Thank you for continuing on this journey with us. We feel your support and am humbled by the kindness you have shown our staff as they strive to nurture and walk alongside your family. We will keep you updated on our transition back to in-studio dance as that information is released. Until then we look forward to seeing you on Zoom!
Crossings is and always has been about more than just great dancing! We must continue pressing forward together, adapting as needed for the safety of all, while keeping our eyes on God and a hopeful future. We are so proud of the strength and resilience of our students, families and faculty who continue to live into our mission of COMMUNITY, EXCELLENCE, AND INTEGRITY.
Hang in there!

WELCOME BACK!
To our Crossings Community,
WELCOME BACK! We started 2021 with a week of unique and free classes for your children that included Frozen Fantastic and Acro Artic Expedition for our 5-7 year old students. Dreaming of Pointe! Flexibility Training, Disney Parade Combo, Hands Up for Handstands, and Dance Conditioning with our 8+ dancers. Our older students had Dance Conditioning, Flexibility Training, Hands Up for Handstands, Contemporary, and Ultra Barre. We brought in guest teachers; Coach Tessa VanderVeeken (Calgary) for conditioning, Colin Hood (Calgary) for Hands up for Handstands, Erin O’Loughlin (Montreal) for Contemporary, and Teal Darkenwald (USA) for Ultra Barre as well as our very own Miss Kathryn, Miss Kristen, Miss Shea, Miss Emily, and myself.
The week concluded with Mental Skills Training with Miss Lauren Ritchie. I must admit that I personally got a lot out of Lauren’s class and only wish I had been exposed to this teaching when I was young. Lauren focused on the “awareness” component of Mental Skills Training in relation to online learning. She covered breathe work, self-talk, mental resilience, and confidence. I thought her approach to explaining how the brain works, in particular, the prefrontal cortex (the wise owl), and the amygdala (the guard dog) was brilliant. She explained that the guard dog often leaps up to react when we do not like something, feel we can’t do, or are afraid. The wise owl is the part of the brain that helps us with planning, problem solving, creativity, and we can settle the guard dog down by breathing and listening to our self-talk which brings back the wise owl. She also had the girls discuss what is within their control and outside their control in relation to on-line learning and how to communicate their feelings and needs. She encouraged the girls to set an intention before class, prepare their dance space, ask parents for help if they need it, let the teacher know if they do not have the room to do what she is asking, and try to remember that this will end one day, and we will be back in the studio! So much is about how we chose to show up, whether to school, work, or dance!
I was so PROUD of your kids last week. They truly dove in and engaged in every opportunity. All the guest teachers commented on what dedicated, intelligent, respectful, students we have.
I also wanted to let you know that I am working with MLA Gotfried and Dance Safe Alberta to get studios back to in-studio classes as soon as possible. Our concerns and proposals have been “elevated” to Dr. Henshaw’s office along with the Premier’s. We are doing everything we can to get your children back to doing the things they love in a safe and legal way. Please hang on with us!
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate this season together.
We are so grateful for each and every one of you!

CYDC pivots . . .
We are excited to share with you our new
CYDC PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM
(CYDC PTP)
After much contemplation and consideration about how to move forward with the remainder of our current 2020/21 Crossings Youth Dance Company season, we are excited to announce our newly created CYDC PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM (CYDC PTP). While we are heart broken that due to the current Covid-19 restrictions we are not able to complete our performance season, we are encouraged by the opportunities that this new program will offer our students.
In these uncertain times, CYDC PTP will provide our dancers with concrete, stable and EXCITING virtual specific training (until we can resume in-studio). We believe it is important to live out our core values of EXCELLENCE, INTEGRITY & COMMUNITY …. continuing to build our community, foster friendships, offer technical & artistic training and educate our students on the greater dance industry. So we will be using this time to do just this!
This program is something we have wished to offer our students for many years! We are thankful for the opportunity to finally bring this to life!
CYDC PTP’s weekly training will include:
- Company Class (with some awesome guest teachers)
- Technical & Artistic Development (such as: Conditioning, Stretch, Improvisation, Staging & Choreographic theory, Theatrical Training)
- Discussion/Theory Sessions (such as: Devotional, Social Media Literacy, Summer Programs/Applications, Education & Career Planning, etc)
Choreography from our current 2020/21 season will be completed with a full stage production in the 2021/22 season. Get excited, this is going to be an AMAZING show and we can not wait to share it with you!!!
