Crossing’s Professional Training Classes

Crossings provides training for young dancers who aspire to professional careers in dance. Training is based on a structure developed through a strong classical dance curriculum and complimented with Modern or Jazz.

- Ballet ( ages 5 – Adult)

The structure and discipline of ballet allows students to develop the balance, poise, flexibility and strength necessary not only for ballet but for all dance forms. Classes follow the ISTD and RAD syllabi as well as open work from various styles for our Intermediate through Advanced students. All teachers and classes are assessed throughout the year to ensure the highest quality of instruction.

- Modern (ages 10 – Adult)

There are various contemporary styles and techniques which have been developed since the beginning of the 20th century. Aspects of Modern dance include the use of the torso, space and weight, as well as developed strength and flexibility. Moren is highly recommended for all ballet students as it helps improve their flow and use of space.

- Jazz (ages 6 – Adult)

The ISTD and RAD syllabi are followed in combination with a wide variety of Jazz styles in order to develop a deeper understanding of the rich history and diverse styles of Jazz. This high energy program helps students develop quickness, sharpness and groove!

- Performance Hip Hop

New to Crossings for the 2009-10 season is our Performance Hip Hop class with Connie Jakab. This class is a performance-based hip hop group for kids 10 to 12 years old who show good attitude, work ethic and stage presence. Hip hop experience is also required. A fun, interactive class with the aim of performing in various venues throughout the year. This class is on an invitational basis, and will have some performance opportunities. If you are interested in this class, please contact the studio office at 254-4321.

- Cross Connection

Cross Connection provides dancers with the opportunity to explore dance as an expression of worship. Cross Connection is focused on equipping dancers with the necessary skills to take leadership roles within their own churches.  Each class will consist of a short Bible study and warm up followed by choreography.  The choreography learned in class will create a repertoire that will be presented in church services and other venues throughout the year.

Requirements:  Students must be in at least Grade 4 Ballet and Grade 4 Modern or Jazz. Participants must be available from time to time to dance in worship services.  As Cross Connection is designed to prepare dancers for performance, students will be expected to present themselves in a professional manner in the studio by consistent attendance in all technique classes, rehearsals and behavior.
